School Nature Programme
This programme has been designed and brought to life by our Education Project Worker, Megan Elin. Its aim is to inspire and educate children about the world we live in, while encouraging them to develop a caring and protective attitude toward nature.
The programme consists of 6 sessions throughout the school year, with a new topic for each session!
These include:
- Introduction Session - Greeting the kids, creating our wood cookie necklaces with our names and doing a quiz about nature.
- Habitat Session - Going outdoors to build nests as birds would using just one hand as a beak.
- Biodiversity - An interactive slideshow showing the basics of Biodiversity and then painting anything from nature with our hands.
- Science in the garden - Planting slices of tomatoes in different pots and putting the pots in different locations to see which survive in different environments.
- Food - An interactive slideshow about how far foods travel to reach our supermarkets and eventually our plates.
- Protecting our environment - Gathering ideas of what we can do from home to protect our environment and then finally a litter pick to finish the sessions.
The children are then all given a certificate to show their accomplishment of the Nature Programme with us at Y Dref Werdd.
