Tanygrisiau Wildlife Garden
An exciting new project is coming to Tanygrisiau...one where all the community can get involved to transform an overgrown and disused patch of land into somewhere beautiful, relaxing and great for wildlife.
Since January 2023, the community has come together and worked hard to create new habitats for wildlife. So far we've planted up an orchard, a native hedgerow, a wildflower meadow, a bog garden and a sensory garden. A nature trail/footpath winds its way around the garden with benches placed so you can sit and enjoy the view. In September we hosted an apple pressing day, with apples collected from another local orchard. Everyone had a great time, as you can see! We pressed 35 litres of apple juice in just one morning, with everyone going away with at least a bottle, and the rest going to the community fridge.
Future plans for the garden include planting up around the orchard with many more edible fruit bushes, herbs and perennial plants. A small community tree nursery will be situated in the northern most corner, where we will grow trees for local planting projects.
