Hafan Deg Community Garden

The idea for the Hafan Deg community garden was started way back in 2015. A disused patch of land that was overgrown and attracting rubbish was identified as a potential community green space. With the support and encouragement of local residents and housing associations, the space was transformed into the vibrant and succesful garden it now is. Key to the success of the garden has been local volunteers who look after it and grow the food there. Particular mention goes to Brian Scholes, a retired head gardener. He spends most of his time planting, weeding, growing seedlings and generally keeping a watchful eye on the place. He is ably supported by Damian Hatton who helps with the more physical jobs of grass cutting and pruning. The residents of the estate enjoy getting together in the garden, and every autumn they share the fruits and vegetables of the harvest.
